Core topics

Each core topic serves as a space for connections between research, practice, and policy, as well as different perspectives and backgrounds. These connections foster new insights, shared understanding, and innovative solutions, and this know-how can subsequently support the implementation of detention houses in Europe, with continuous reflection and improvement of the existing knowledge.

We have dived deeper into each core topic by organizing visits to diverse organizations and facilities across different European countries. These visits, combined with desk research, the information gathered during the pre-conference in March in Brussels, and the organization of a podcast with people from diverse backgrounds in the field, have allowed us to create a training program, a reader, and this website.
